The first eight editions of CORRI LA VITA have combined sport, charity, culture and a social commitment in a single event, the proceeds of which are donated to non-profit projects to assist the public health care facilities specializing in the treatment of breast cancer. The total of participants has been approximately 100,000 which raised funds for over 2,000,000 EUR. Distinguished people from the world of - sports, theater, film, music and literature have been enthusiastic witnesses for this event, and again Cesare Prandelli has offered to be the starter of the race. The social impact of CORRI LA VITA has been amply demonstrated over the years, and this year again it has come to our attention that some inmates from the Florence prison Sollicciano have decided to train so they may participate in the next edition on September 25. In the hopes to get themselves physically and mentally healthy, as a bases of their rehabilitation for the future.
As with previous editions, CORRI LA VITA consists of two different routes both in length and difficulty: the competitive run is about 12 km. and the walk is approximately 5 km which is open to all participants. The walk wanders through the city going to places of historical and artistic importance. Especially this year passing places of symbolic and/or in remembrance of the Unification of Italy, among which, Piazza Mentana with its monument to the fallen at the Battle of Mentana where many of Garibaldi's troops lost thier lives in the battle against the papal army; The Palazzo Pitti was the residence of the King Vittorio Emanuele II between 1865and 1871, the years Florence was the capital of Italy; Piazza Repubblica whose present appearance was recreated due to the new urban planning of that time to create the new capital of Italy, and finally, the new Palazzo Bartolommei situated in Via Lambertesca, was where began, what is to be defined as the "revolution" that led to the end of the era of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany .
The routes have been designed in collaboration with Firenze Marathon for the technical side and Città Nascosta for the historical /cultural aspects of the walk. .
Participants, in exchange for a minimum donation of 10 EUR, will receive one of 22,000 T-shirts offered by SALVATORE FERRAGAMO SpA together with a race number specially created by UNIVERSO SPORT. Careggi University Hospital - Breast Diagnostic S.O.D.
After the purchase of the new digital mammography machine, which has been in function since February 2011, the idea is to purchase a new program for this machine called -Tomosynthesis digital mammography, which is a unique and innovative system in the study of breast diagnosis. It appeared on the market five years ago and has already been approved by the FDA. This method promises maximum clinical results with a very precise three-dimensional view of the breast, and can be easily match to that of mammography for comparison. The improvement is by separating overlapping structures enhancing the visibility of the disease which was not possible using a conventional technique.
